 As the young modernist democratic Islamic revolutionary movements of North Africa and the Middle East pick up steam, there is one thing, we, in the western democracies should stay focused on and that is how we unequivocally qualitatively and quantitatively throw our support behind the young Muslim revolutionaries who are dying in the streets every day for the same rights and freedoms the rest of us take for granted. If the Western democracies do not
 want to be seen as the benefactors of the current oppressive fascist dictatorial regimes which they befriended or outright supported all these years; the western leaders had better open their eyes and witness history in the making. The “quadriplegic” foreign policies of the west, which kept these dictators in power at the expense of the masses for so many years, are no longer a viable nor sustainable alternatives. The west stands at the threshold of events which could easily define the direction of the 21st century, let’s not take the wrong turn. Let’s not miss the opportunity to be on the right side history.

These young revolutionaries are part of a new breed of Muslims. The large majority of them are educated, secularists hungry for freedom and western type democracy. Let’s not deny them that. Let’s not let them down. When it comes to the global geopolitical horse race, we, in the west, and especially in the United States, have had this bad habit of picking the wrong horse to bet on, always choosing the dictators over the people.  The young revolutionaries of Africa and the Middle East are now giving us a chance to redeem ourselves. Let us bet on the right horse this time. The global peace is at stake. If we allow the fascist theocrats with their perverted blood thirsty ideology take over the dreams and aspirations of these young progressive Muslims, then I am afraid, we will be the masters of our own demise and worthy of our fate. If we want to have world peace and guarantee the integrity of Israel and the safety of the Jewish people, we better make sure Israel’s neighbours are peace loving, economically healthy, secular democracies and not Ahmadinejatist crazies.
