Town Hall Meetings Gone Tribal!

Friends, I wasn’t planning to get involved in the health reform debate, because, to be frank with you, the debate has become a political football between those who are socio-politically farsighted… (Democrats) and those who are socio-politically blind as a bat… (Republicans).

Unfortunately for the country, the Republicans, who ideologically have gone via way of the transistor radio, are only interested in fertilizing the political field with their archaic dollar ideology, in preparation for the 2012 election. Moreover, having a health care system which takes the excessive financial abuses, wastefulness and control away from the Insurance Companies, would be something no Republican would endorse without losing the “perks” the Insurance lobby provides them with. The present system does NOT work. Everybody in the world knows it except the Republicans. It is a system so flawed that it is bankrupting people, businesses, states, cities and the country in whole.

I have spent the last few days following closely these “town hall meetings” and I have never, ever, felt so embarrassed to be an American. It annoys me so much to watch Congressmen and Senators try hopelessly to explain the Health Care Reform, to mob like crowds, consisting of screaming women, gun totting cowboys, crazy illiterates, psychopathic bushwhacking hillbillies, KKKs and staged hands of the Republican Party. They are inside and outside these halls screaming at the top of their lungs like fucking hyenas on a bush kill.

Listening to people who couldn’t form a rational thought if their stupid lives depended on it, trying to explain to the legislators how (they) interpret the health reform bill, makes me laugh as their lack of intellect becomes apparent. I want to shoot myself in the head for living in a country where such people are allowed to live and procreate outside of a steel barred CAGE.

These fuckers couldn’t read their own name if it was written in BLOCK LETTERS on a moonshine jar and had lights shining on it. Yet, they have the audacity to stand there and pretend they have read and understood over a thousand pages of a complex legal document like the health bill. They stand there and argue its validity with the people who actually wrote it…. Fuck off morons. You are being manipulated by the fascist wing of the Republican Party and you can’t even see it. You have been forced-fed disinformation which at the end benefits only your leash holders and their financiers.

Most of you who follow my blog, know by now that I don’t subscribe to any particular political party, religion or cultural ideology. My bible is the Constitution and my conviction its defence. So you can understand, that when I see tribalism as exhibited at these “town hall” meetings, it irks me. It irritates me. It lights up my (short) fuse. So if I sound pissed off, it’s because I am. But I’ll get over it. Like I said in one of my previous postings, I may just move to Fiji, sit on the beach and down margaritas.

  2. Oh my, I can't believe what I'm reading!!!!!

The pharmaceutical industry is spending $150 million in an advertising campaign to "sell" Obama's health care plan to the American public. Do you think they would do that if it wasn't to their benefit?

    I'm soooo fucking disappointed.

  5. Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) -- If there is any doubt that President Barack Obama’s plan to overhaul U.S. health care is the hottest topic in Congress, just ask the 3,300 lobbyists who have lined up to work on the issue.

That’s six lobbyists for each of the 535 members of the House and Senate, according to Senate records, and three times the number of people registered to lobby on defense. More than 1,500 organizations have health-care lobbyists, and about three more are signing up each day. Every one of the 10 biggest lobbying firms by revenue is involved in an effort that could affect 17 percent of the U.S. economy.

These groups spent $263.4 million on lobbying during the first six months of 2009, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington-based research group, more than any other industry. They spent $241.4 million during the same period of 2008. Drugmakers alone spent $134.5 million, 64 percent more than the next biggest-spenders, oil and gas companies.

“Whenever you have a big piece of legislation like this, it’s like ringing the dinner bell for K Street,” said Bill Allison, a senior fellow at the Sunlight Foundation, a Washington-based watchdog group, referring to the street in the capital where many lobbying firms have offices

  6. You say: "Yet, they have the audacity to stand there and pretend they have read and understood over a thousand pages of a complex legal document like the health bill."

And having a new health care plan that's over 1,000 pages long in legalese is supposed to be a good thing?

I think the shoe will drop with quite a few people on this blog after this post.

All this hooplah over MSM soundbytes - doing a damn good job of keeping people distracted from the current economic situation. It's as simple as pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

  12. I agree, this is so disappointing.

I'll give you a personal example. My daughter's speech therapy's "rack rate" (cost to uninsured or out-of-network) is $137 per session.
Medicade would pay $99 if we were on it.
Our insurance contract rate is $65. Since the insurance reimbursement was so low, our provider went out of network and now we have to pay $137.

Interesting that the $99 Medicade price point is halfway between the rack rate and insurance reimbursement, isn't it?

  13. What if the Cap & Tax, Stimilus BS bill, and now the Health Care is cover for what's really going on with the Federal Reserve (NY), Investment Banks, and the elite insiders ? The media is not following it for the most part (thank heaven for the internet). 14. 1. get rid of insurance mandates in a policy
for example, I neither need nor want 30 days of mental health care, yet I'm forced to buy it. I'm also forced to subsidize drug coverage for Viagra when there is no similar coverage for birth control products. Free the market for what's included in a policy.

    2. allow buying policies across state lines
if a policy is good enough to be sold in Nevada, why can't I buy it if I live in CA ?

Or, is this too complicated for Obama to understand?

  18. This, or something like it would be a wonderful solution to the healthcare debate. Like most of these things, however, the problem isn't necessarily that there aren't solutions, or that our government doesn't know about them. The problem is that as long as you have people paying other people off, and special interests, and screaming idiot constituents blaming everyone but themselves and thinking that their personal problem is the center of the universe, none of these amazing solutions will be implimented. This has to be your worse blog ever.

  22. How is Obama's plan different? Instead of the taxpayer eating the bill through taxes, we eat the bill through higher costs across the board. If something is going to be government I'd prefer it be states, but with what his idea I don't see it. The Feds are in a better position to collect with the IRS and are responsible for the foreign aid. I'm also not sure what legal implications that has when someone from Wisconsin gets care here in Colorado and actually collecting on that debt.

Besides, the Fed gov's budget is so frickin huge already, might as well squeeze this in there as the money is just going to be wasted somewhere else anyway.

  23. While I almost NEVER disagree with Ploitikong, on this one he's full of shit.

Healthcare simply does not fit the capitalist model. At all. And it never will.

One cannot know what disease one might get or when. There is no planning. There is no choice. There is no saving 20% down or 36% DTI. The model does not apply.

Sickness is not a Mercedes or a pair of shoes at Nordstrom or a shack in the OC. YOU HAVE NO CHOICE. You cannot price shop, you cannot compare. You need what you need when you need it. No amount of capitalist contortion will change that simple fact.

If a strong governmental hand is justifiable anywhere, it is here, in the healthcare arena. You people sit back so smug and self-satisfied that YOU did what you were supposed to do--you got a job with an employer who provides you a health insurance policy or you pay out of your own overstretched pocket. Well, pin a rose on you. You will be squealing like a stuck pig when you file an expensive claim that is denied. "But, but, I did what I was SUPPOSED to do. I HAD insurance."

Yet you would rather step over people dying in the street with your Jimmy Choo shoes than acknowledge that your sacrosanct capitalist model has failed to deliver what you "paid for." It must be Mexico's fault.

  27. Politikong,

You are great on a lot of issues, but on health care, you don't know your ass from your elbow, and the people who think Obama's ideas are "good" are horribly wrong.

Let's take this "plan" apart piece by piece:

1: "If you sell "insurance" to anyone in a given state, you must accept all persons in that state on the same terms and at the same price."

It is stupid to think that workers in one industry have exactly the same health risks as workers in another industry. If certain occupations lead to increased rates of some types of cancer, for example, that has to be factored in. I see no reason why employees of a computer company should have exactly the same rates as someone who is exposed to toxic chemicals.

Offering everyone the same price, regardless of their risk factors, is idiotic. You of all people should know better.

    2. Catastrophic plans--it's so bad I don't know where to start.

    3. "All health providers must publish a price list and may not bill or accept payment at anything other than that price; doing so becomes a violation of Robinson-Patman and exposes the provider to civil suit for treble damages"

    ReplyDelete
  28. Politikong, supporting this health care plan is truly stupid. You should really know better.

  30. Why not let doctors and hospitals charge whatever they want and insurance reimburses whatever they reimburse and the patient pays the balance? Let capitalism work. There will be providers who charge more and they will make money that way and providers who charge less and they will make more on quantity.

Sort of like shopping at Saks vs Kmart. Why won't this work?

  31. NO 1000 PAGE BILLS! Lets reform health care 1 bill per issue. Do this over a period of years. Keep what works, remove what doesn't. This is a sensible and pragmatic approach. The first step in solving a problem is determining what the problem actually is. If there is such a thing as common sense this would qualify.

  55. Setting the record straight!

Since I am not affiliated with any particular party or ideology, I don’t write in support of ANY political party or ideology. I exercise my right to freedom of expression and reserve the right to criticize anything or anyone I disagree with. And yes YOU have that same right as well. So don’t let me stop you from “bashing the monkey”.

Now, for the benefit of those of you who don’t seem to comprehend what you read here is a short explanation. The only one.

There were only two points being made in that post.
    1. The Health Care System in its current form is grossly inadequate and flawed.
    2. The behaviour of the general public at these town hall meetings is nothing short of “Barbaric”…in my view. That’s All Folks. Nothing more nothing less. And that view still stands.

When you see people walking into meetings like these, carrying a 9mm handguns, women screaming and swearing at their representative, women going on national television saying that they didn’t understand the speaker’s answer because they weren’t even listening to his answer, when you see people carrying placards depicting the president of the United States as Hitler…what would you call it? I can go on and on and on with behavioural examples non-fitting to Americans…but I won’t.
I don’t have to defend or explain my views, because they are just that…MY VIEWS.

So in the final analysis- I go on writing and you…well…YOU don’t have to Read!

Again This Is Not News…It’s Jungle Politics!

  56. Our forefathers didn't win our independence by politely "debating" the issue with our British masters. They won our independence by raising arms and calling a revolution. If they though this was a "barbaric" act, we'd still be slaves.

What we are witnessing now is the 3rd step of the Second American Revolution (read some Gerald Celente, it will broaden your horizons).

Dr. Politikong has posted some nice stuff on this blog but his latest blog is misguided, a loser, a bomb, a complete aberration and JUST PLAIN WRONG.

I for one would have more respect for Dr. Politikong if he owned up to the fact that he misspoke , did not fully understand the issue and therefore he shouldn't have commented on it, apologize for calling ordinary Americans who are outraged with what their government is doing to them all kinds of names (suggesting they are members of extremist groups), INSTEAD OF CONTINUING TO POST DEFENDING AN IMPOSSIBLE POSITION.

Yeah, everyone has got a right to expressing their opinion but continuing to defend the original blog shows a continued ignorance of the facts and a continued ignorance of how regulars on this blog really feel about this issue. It also demonstrates an appalling arrogance in believing that if one screams loud enough, they'll get their way.

This blog has lost an enormous amount of credibility. It's up to Dr. Politikong to correct it, or go by the way of hundreds of other blogs on the net that become IRRELEVANT.

It's really amazing that some of the same people who were watching the bankster-industrial complex blow up this bubble and destroy our economy with this orgy of credit now want to trust these people with our HEALTHCARE.

It's one thing to watch the housing industry crash and burn, it's even quite funny to watch, but our health care!?

I was never very politically active until TARP and the tea parties, but I plan to continue going to every townhall and anti-Obamacare rally until this proposal goes down in flames!

  60. Dr. Politikong was perceived as part of the "solution" by regular contributors on here. Now he is perceived as part of the "problem". What a difference a blog makes.

For what is worth, I agree with all those who commented that Dr. Politikong doesn't understand the healthcare issues. It's also disingenuous for Dr. Politikong to claim political neutrality. The Republican bashing on this blog is frequent and explicit and the Obama/Democrat endorsement is implicit.

I totally agree....CREDIBILITY HAS BEEN TOTALLY LOST.

I was paying $900.00/m in premiums and when I had my hearth surgery I was dropped because they (insurance) said my smoking caused the heart problem. Now I have to get a lawyer to go after the insurance. Can any of you smart asses tell where I am going to find the money to pay the lawyers? I lost my job 3 weeks ago.

Americans are pathetic. Your health care system is another money making machine whose medical professionals share the same opportunistic principals of the financial professionals on Wall Street.

Think of this: your economy is in tatters; the cost for basic medical procedures and treatments are out of control. Soon premiums will not be affordable and you will fucking die from your diseases because your financial institutions will not release credit to you. LMAO.

Obama's health plan might not be ideal, but what you have in place at present sucks.

  102. I should know better to butt in here in the middle of this fracas but I thought I would offer my 2¢ worth.

Politikong was challenged by many posters on his position. Of particular interest to me was the post of Dr. J.D. Price who presented a page by page summary of what is troubling and bad about this health plan and thus presented a defacto reason why Americans attending town hall meetings had every right to be angry. Politikong had no response, other than to say that he felt people's behavior was barbaric. It is true, however, as Bill Sanders stated (IMO the best post on here by a country mile) that if our forefathers regarded this behavior barbaric, we'd still be slaves. Politikong again had no response.

I've enjoyed a lot of the blogs by Politikong in the past but in this last one obviously he stepped beyond his knowledge and ability. Also, I think refusing to accept the fact that he was on the wrong side of the debate only angered visitors even further. Many I'm sure have abandoned this blog for ever.

Anyways, for what is worth, that's how this guy from Nevada sees it. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, what's left of it.

You're a moron and reflect exactly the point that was being made in the blog.

The blog did not seem to either advocate or reject the proposed health care plan, but rather to point out the poor behaviour and narrow mindedness of people to whom the information is being share with in a forum for open discussion and debate.
