What do over three hundred million Americans have in common?
It all started with a very stupid policy by the Truman administration better known as the containment policy. To put it simply: An attempt by successive and misguided administrations since 1947 to stop the “possible expansion” of communism at ALL costs.
In reality, it had nothing to do with communism and its ideology. It was not so much the fear of communist expansion as much as it was the fear of capitalist contraction. So we appointed ourselves as the “World’s Law Enforcer” kind of geopolitical godfather, protecting his ward. It wasn’t long after that when nations around the world who thought we were there to “protect” them, came to the obvious conclusion that good old U.S of A had an ulterior motive. Namely, their own ECONOMIC and MILITARY interests, served to the populace on the platter of democratic ideology. You know- individual freedoms and rights blah blah blah. Now, don’t get me wrong. I hate communism as much as the next guy, AND some. I also hate fascism in all its forms, theocracy, monarchism, oligarchy and anarchism. But at least I hate them for what they are. Oppressive, regressive barbaric and lawlessness. To make a long story short….under the facade of - Protectors of DEMOCRACY-, we got into Vietnam and most of South and South East Asia, the Far East and Middle East, Africa, Central Europe, Eastern Europe and everywhere in the world where there was a drop of oil, an ounce of gold, a carat of diamond or a pot to piss in American values. We had stirred up so much shit for everybody every where, overtly and covertly, directly and indirectly, that by the end of the ‘70s, we had become the indistinguishable twins of the imperialist British. They all smile to our faces and conceal daggers for our backs. Finally we arrive at today’s events. We are now faced with the dilemma of Iran. We have been to this “present” in the “past”. Without having to revisit our historic democratic installation of Mohammad Reza Palhavi as Shah of Iran –I mean that facetiously – these proud historic people of Persia have first hand experience with our so called American Ideals. That is why they hate us so much. Nothing to do with their Islamic beliefs. It doesn’t mater if they are Shiites, Sunnis, Druze, Taliban, Christian, Jews Buddhist, Hindus or what have you. It is our past regional history that haunts us today. Which brings me to the question I started this article with. What do over three hundred million Americans have in common…and the answer is…….We just don’t fucking get it!
For the first time in American history, we have a president who understands the politics, the people and the culture of that region. He knows how Americans are perceived. Most importantly he understands IT. He gets IT. He really gets IT. Unlike John McCain and his clan, who not so long ago was singing ….bomb bomb Iran…Obama really really gets IT. He is doing the right thing by staying out of it. These proud people revolted and overthrew the Shah without our help. They can and they will do it again. We just have to let the Persians take control of Persia. It is their country, it is their destiny and IT is NOT any of our goddamn business.

ReplyDeleteI agree. We should stay out of it. The Iranians want to get rid of the Mullahs they can do it themselves. Remember 1979? They wanted an Islamic Republic. They got. They made their bed now they can sleep in it.
